The Associated Press has demonstrated that states that allow credit card companies to garnish wages also have much higher bankruptcy rates. The higher bankruptcy rates adversely affect a states overall budget in a myriad of ways. More people need help, more state budget is spent on court cases, helping people branded bankrupt, and then these bankrupted people have a harder time getting a job as a result.
